Experience the vibrant atmosphere of one of Gozo’s most anticipated festa in the heart of Victoria. From 9:00 p.m., the streets come alive with traditional band marches, spectacular fireworks, and the unique spirit of a Gozitan festa. The evening begins with the Santa Marija Band of Żebbuġ marching from Cathedral Square to Independence Square, where a musical programme will take place. At the same time, the La Valette Band of Valletta will march from Independence Square to the Leone Band Club in Republic Street. At 9:30 p.m., the Leone Band will pay tribute to the 1956 statue of Santa Marija outside the band club with the hymn march Lil Santa Marija Assunta, accompanied by a spectacular rooftop fireworks display. The celebrations will then continue with a lively demonstration march featuring the La Valette Band along Republic Street towards Independence Square. At midnight, the festivities culminate in one of the most moving moments of the feast: the solemn raising of the statue of Santa Marija onto its pedestal in Independence Square. Accompanied by Marian hymns, the traditional march, and a breathtaking rooftop fireworks finale, this cherished ceremony beautifully blends faith, music, tradition, and celebration.
