Fjur D’Argenta is a traditional family-oriented event forming part of the annual feast celebrations in honour of Saint John the Baptist in Xewkija. The festivities commence on the 23rd of August with the Defile’ taż-Żwiemel, beginning at 8:00 a.m. from Pjazza San Ġwann Battista. The procession follows a route through Triq Santa Marija, Triq il-Għarus, Triq Ħamsin, Triq Santa Katerina, Triq il-Knisja, before returning to the square, where the participants and horses receive a commemorative blessing in recognition of the occasion. The celebrations continue on 27th August, with an evening of Maltese folk music in Pjazza San Ġwann Battista at 8:30 p.m., featuring popular singers Joe Grech ta’ Raħal Ġdid, Raymond Laferla ir-Ruman, Gabriel Briffa ta’ Ħal Qormi, and René Calleja l-Bessie, together with special guest Nenu Borg il-Brazz. Accompanying the performers will be guitarists Johnny Grima tal-Belt, Joe Bonello is-Skuti, and Francesco Cutajar tal-Minocċ. The event reaches its climax on 28th August, with a Musical Programme at 8:00 p.m., presented by Banda Prekursur under the direction of Surmast Marvin Grech, featuring a varied repertoire and guest vocalists. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy the traditional ħuġġieġa and savour the famous Saint John’s ring cake, making Fjur D’Argenta a vibrant celebration of faith, culture, music, and community spirit for all the family.
