Magnificat - 18th century music by Zerafa and Azopardi

This concert will focus on Marian music by Maltese composers. 2026 is the tercentenary of the birth of Don Benigno Zerafa, who was maestro di cappella at Mdina Cathedral from 1744 until 1787.The choir will celebrate Zerafa by singing his Magnificat in G major for soloists, choir, organ and orchestra, composed in 1753. The choir will then sing the responsory Posui Adiutorium that Zerafa composed for the grand entry of Grandmaster De Rohan into Mdina Cathedral, and which he completed on 23rd October 1776, 250 years to the day from the concert.
